Nestled between Oregon’s Cascade Mountains and the Coast Range, the Willamette Valley is a promised land for Pinot noir, forged by volcanoes, oceanic uplift, and ice age flooding. Our early winegrowers relied on cooperation and camaraderie in every aspect of their shared endeavor. And their pioneer spirit of collaboration remains a beacon to the steady stream of adventurers who continue to come to our Valley, lured by the promise of great Pinot noir.
Here we offer you a glimpse of our crews navigating new and sometimes strange pandemic-era precautions, along with the same pump-up jams, long days, Mount Hood vistas, sore muscles, and magic that make each Willamette Valley vintage remarkable. Welcome to Harvest.
Doyle and Darcy have a nose for vines and enjoy their morning vineyard walks.
As we prepare for harvest activity and monitor our fruit for ripeness, we remind everyone on the roads to be cautious. With extra truck traffic and valley visitors, we encourage everyone to take it slow and be safe.
Doyle and Darcy wish all of our industry colleagues a safe and fruitful harvest. Sláinte!
The very first fruit of 2020 traveled down the line and into the press on Saturday. It was a lovely launch to what is already an uncommon harvest. With nothing but sunshine on the horizon, we’re eager to hit the ground running and bring this baby home — happy harvest, friends!

Cluster Study v.2020 - what a difference 1 year makes. In the Willamette Valley we have experienced cooler temperatures for most of spring, a lot of over cast, and rain during inflorescence. So it is no surprise the amount of variability we have with the 2020 crop. The clusters are looser, and there are more "chicks and hens" aka millerandage. As always, thanks to my classmate Thomas Houseman at Anne Amie for inspiring me to start this 3 years ago. Our clusters were so variable this year that I pulled 2 samples from each block. Scroll through my post to compare to 2019 and 2018. Also note, our estate vineyard is located in the newly formed Laurelwood District AVA nested in the Chehalem Mountains of the Willamette Valley. The last slide is 2019 Grüner and sparkling clusters for comparison.
