Penner-Ash Wine Cellars
Penner-Ash Wine Cellars embodies the spirit and commitment of small producers focusing on Pinot Noir in the Northern Willamette Valley. Robert Parker recognizes Penner-Ash as one of the top producers of American Pinot Noir in his buyer’s guide. Winemaker Lynn Penner-Ash graduated from the University California at Davis with a degree in enology and began her career in the wine industry working for prestigious California producers such as Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Domaine Chandon, and Chateau St. Jean. Intrigued by an emerging and relatively young wine industry, Lynn and her husband Ron, moved to Oregon in 1988 where Lynn became winemaker at Rex Hill Vineyards.
In 1998, Lynn and Ron started producing Pinot Noir under their own label. In the winery, the focus is on small lot indigenous-yeast fermentation with extended cold soaks to extract a rich, fruit-focused textured mouth feel. Each lot is treated individually and depending on the outcome, either blended in to our reserve quality Willamette Valley Pinot Noir or bottled separately as a vineyard designate. Although our focus is on Pinot Noir, we also produce limited qualities of Syrah and Viognier sourced from warmer growing regions, along with limited-production Riesling from the Willamette Valley.
Lynn and Ron moved in to their sustainable, gravity-flow estate winery for harvest 2005. Located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA District, guests are welcomed when they visit by breathtaking views that embrace our unique sense of place.
